--- name: gas-station-operator description: "Occupational skill for the role 'gas station operator' (also: ethylene compressor operator, gas pumping station operative, butadiene compressor operator, gas-compressor operative, gas pumping station operator, gas compressor and gas pumping station operative). Use when the user asks for typical gas station operator work such as: Monitor transportation and storage of flammable and other potentially dangerous products to ensure that safety guidelines are followed.; Monitor equipment functioning, observe temperature, level, and flow gauges, and perform regular unit checks to ensure that all equipment is operating as it should.; Control operation of compressors, scrubbers, evaporators, and refrigeration equipment to liquefy, compress, or regasify natural gas." --- # Gas Station Operator Gas station operators process gases for compression, transmission or recovery by using gas, steam or electric engine compressors. They perform chemical tests on gases and are responsible for pumps and pipelines operations. ## Core workflow 1. Monitor transportation and storage of flammable and other potentially dangerous products to ensure that safety guidelines are followed. 2. Monitor equipment functioning, observe temperature, level, and flow gauges, and perform regular unit checks to ensure that all equipment is operating as it should. 3. Control operation of compressors, scrubbers, evaporators, and refrigeration equipment to liquefy, compress, or regasify natural gas. 4. Start and shut down plant equipment. 5. Record, review, and compile operations records, test results, and gauge readings such as temperatures, pressures, concentrations, and flows. 6. Adjust temperature, pressure, vacuum, level, flow rate, or transfer of gas to maintain processes at required levels or to correct problems. 7. Clean, maintain, and repair equipment, using hand tools, or request that repair and maintenance work be performed. 8. Collaborate with other operators to solve unit problems. ## How to use this skill - Read [references/profile.md](references/profile.md) for the occupation profile and scope. - Consult [references/tasks.md](references/tasks.md) for the full task and activity inventory. - Check [references/skills.md](references/skills.md) for essential vs. optional competences. - Check [references/tools.md](references/tools.md) for the software commonly used in this role. - See [references/ai-skills.md](references/ai-skills.md) — matched external AI agent skills (per-source attribution). ## Key competences (essential) - comply with pipeline transport regulations - ensure correct gas pressure - maintain equipment - monitor valves - operate gas extraction equipment - operate pumping equipment - optimise production processes parameters - read gas meter - record production data - tend compressor engine - test oxygen purity - use chemical analysis equipment ## Hot technologies - Microsoft Outlook - SAP software - Microsoft Office software - Google Android - Microsoft PowerPoint - Microsoft Excel - Microsoft Word --- *Sources: ESCO v1.2.1 (http://data.europa.eu/esco/occupation/f1c8c186-bef9-4d72-9257-90fc4f992ab7), O*NET 30.3 (51-8092.00).
