--- name: liquid-fuel-engineer description: "Occupational skill for the role 'liquid fuel engineer' (also: gas liquids engineer, chemical engineer, fuel chemist, biofuel specialist, fuel system engineer, petrol specialist). Use when the user asks for typical liquid fuel engineer work such as: Assess costs and estimate the production capabilities and economic value of oil and gas wells, to evaluate the economic viability of potential drilling sites.; Monitor production rates, and plan rework processes to improve production.; Analyze data to recommend placement of wells and supplementary processes to enhance production." --- # Liquid Fuel Engineer Liquid fuel engineers evaluate liquid fuel extraction sites. They design and develop methods for extracting liquid fuels from underneath the earth surface, these fuels include petroleums, natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas, non-petroleum fossil fuels, biodiesel and alcohols. They maximise the recovery of hydrocarbon at a minimum cost, pursuing minimal impact on the environment. ## Core workflow 1. Assess costs and estimate the production capabilities and economic value of oil and gas wells, to evaluate the economic viability of potential drilling sites. 2. Monitor production rates, and plan rework processes to improve production. 3. Analyze data to recommend placement of wells and supplementary processes to enhance production. 4. Specify and supervise well modification and stimulation programs to maximize oil and gas recovery. 5. Direct and monitor the completion and evaluation of wells, well testing, or well surveys. 6. Assist engineering and other personnel to solve operating problems. 7. Develop plans for oil and gas field drilling, and for product recovery and treatment. 8. Maintain records of drilling and production operations. ## How to use this skill - Read [references/profile.md](references/profile.md) for the occupation profile and scope. - Consult [references/tasks.md](references/tasks.md) for the full task and activity inventory. - Check [references/skills.md](references/skills.md) for essential vs. optional competences. - Check [references/tools.md](references/tools.md) for the software commonly used in this role. - See [references/ai-skills.md](references/ai-skills.md) — matched external AI agent skills (per-source attribution). ## Key competences (essential) - address problems critically - alcohol fuels - biodiesel - chemistry - control pumping operations in petroleum production - design natural gas processing systems - design well flow systems - determine flow rate enhancement - environmental legislation - fossil fuels - interpret extraction data - liaise with well test engineers - manage environmental impact - manage fluid production in gas - manage production fluid in oil production ## Hot technologies - Google Analytics - SAS - The MathWorks MATLAB - Autodesk AutoCAD - Microsoft Access - Oracle Database - Eclipse IDE - Microsoft Visual Studio - Microsoft Outlook - SAP software --- *Sources: ESCO v1.2.1 (http://data.europa.eu/esco/occupation/47dd863b-b124-4bb1-bb42-a9498492a8cb), O*NET 30.3 (17-2171.00).
