climatologist Occupational skill for the role 'climatologist' (also: climatology scientist, climate research scientist, climatology research analyst, climatology scholar, climate scientist, climate researcher). Use when the user asks for typical climatologist work such as: Analyze climate data sets, using techniques such as geophysical fluid dynamics, data assimilation, or numerical modeling.; Formulate predictions by interpreting environmental data, such as meteorological, atmospheric, oceanic, paleoclimate, climate, or related information.; Perform managerial duties, such as creating work schedules, creating or implementing staff training, matching staff expertise to situations, or analyzing performance of offices.

Climatologist

Climatologists study the average change in weather and climate from a long-term perspective. They research and analyse historic weather conditions in order to forecast climatic conditions trends such as changes in temperature, global warming, or regional evolutive weather conditions. They use these findings for advising on environmental policy, construction, agricultural projects, and societal matters.

Core workflow

  1. Analyze climate data sets, using techniques such as geophysical fluid dynamics, data assimilation, or numerical modeling.
  2. Formulate predictions by interpreting environmental data, such as meteorological, atmospheric, oceanic, paleoclimate, climate, or related information.
  3. Perform managerial duties, such as creating work schedules, creating or implementing staff training, matching staff expertise to situations, or analyzing performance of offices.
  4. Consult with other offices, agencies, professionals, or researchers regarding the use and interpretation of climatological information for weather predictions and warnings.
  5. Analyze historical climate information, such as precipitation or temperature records, to help predict future weather or climate trends.
  6. Prepare weather reports or maps for analysis, distribution, or use in weather broadcasts, using computer graphics.
  7. Apply meteorological knowledge to issues such as global warming, pollution control, or ozone depletion.
  8. Develop or use mathematical or computer models for weather forecasting.
