name: construction-general-contractor
description: "Occupational skill for the role 'construction general contractor' (also: construction project manager, construction site contractor, construction contactor, general contractor in construction). Use when the user asks for typical construction general contractor work such as: Develop or implement environmental protection programs.; Implement training programs on environmentally responsible building topics to update employee skills and knowledge.; Inspect or review projects to monitor compliance with environmental regulations."
---
# Construction General Contractor
Construction general contractors take on the responsibility to deliver a construction project. They participate on bid processes for construction projects and hire subcontractors to deliver the different stages of the construction process from beginning to completion. They make sure subcontractors hold up their part of the agreement and work in the construction site to make sure the project is delivered in time and according to agreed standards.
## Core workflow
1. Develop or implement environmental protection programs.
2. Implement training programs on environmentally responsible building topics to update employee skills and knowledge.
3. Inspect or review projects to monitor compliance with environmental regulations.
4. Perform, or contract others to perform, pre-building assessments, such as conceptual cost estimating, rough order of magnitude estimating, feasibility, or energy efficiency, environmental, and sustainability assessments.
5. Secure third-party verification from sources, such as Leadership in Energy Efficient Design (LEED), to ensure responsible design and building activities or to achieve favorable LEED ratings for building projects.
6. Plan, schedule, or coordinate construction project activities to meet deadlines.
7. Investigate damage, accidents, or delays at construction sites to ensure that proper construction procedures are being followed.
8. Prepare contracts or negotiate revisions to contractual agreements with architects, consultants, clients, suppliers, or subcontractors.
## How to use this skill
- Read [references/profile.md](references/profile.md) for the occupation profile and scope.
- Consult [references/tasks.md](references/tasks.md) for the full task and activity inventory.
- Check [references/skills.md](references/skills.md) for essential vs. optional competences.
- Check [references/tools.md](references/tools.md) for the software commonly used in this role.
- See [references/ai-skills.md](references/ai-skills.md) — matched external AI agent skills (per-source attribution).
## Key competences (essential)
- audit contractors
- check construction compliance
- communicate with customers
- construction product regulation
- contract law
- coordinate construction activities
- ensure compliance with construction project deadline
- follow health and safety procedures in construction
- green building practices
- identify customer objectives

- manage contracts
- monitor construction site
- monitor contractor performance
- monitor parameters' compliance in construction projects
## Hot technologies

# External AI agent skills — construction-general-contractor
Proven, publicly available AI agent skills mapped to this occupation.
Nothing is copied from the sources: every entry is a name, a one-line
summary and a link to the upstream skill package. Each section names
its source repository, commit, license and retrieval date.
**Tiers:** `core` = the skill directly exercises a top market hard
skill, tool or method (from gated job-ad evidence) or an essential
ESCO competence of this occupation; `adjacent` =
plausibly useful, secondary. Entries are capped at 12 per source
and 80 in total per occupation (core first,
strongest matches survive); everything beyond the caps is excluded
and logged in the pipeline audit trail, not in this package.
_Matched deterministically (ISCO group + title/competence keywords,
tiered against market evidence + ESCO essentials) by
`pipeline/p5_enrich_ai_skills.py` on 2026-07-14._
