description: "Occupational skill for the role 'insurance underwriter' (also: commercial underwriter, group insurance underwriter, liability risk assessor, casualty insurance underwriter, commercial insurance underwriter, commercial property underwriter). Use when the user asks for typical insurance underwriter work such as: Decline excessive risks.; Write to field representatives, medical personnel, or others to obtain further information, quote rates, or explain company underwriting policies.; Evaluate possibility of losses due to catastrophe or excessive insurance."

# Insurance Underwriter
Insurance underwriters assess business risks and liability policies and make decisions about commercial property. They inspect the conditions of businesses’ properties, analyse inspection policies, assist with real estate and rent issues, prepare loan contracts and handle commercial risks in order to align them with business practices. Insurance underwriters analyse various information from prospective customers in order to assess the likelihood that they will report a claim. They work to minimise risk for the insurance company and make sure that the insurance premium aligns with the associated risks. They can be specialists in life insurance, health insurance, reinsurance, commercial insurance, mortgage insurance.
## Core workflow
1. Decline excessive risks.
2. Write to field representatives, medical personnel, or others to obtain further information, quote rates, or explain company underwriting policies.
3. Evaluate possibility of losses due to catastrophe or excessive insurance.
4. Decrease value of policy when risk is substandard and specify applicable endorsements or apply rating to ensure safe, profitable distribution of risks, using reference materials.
5. Review company records to determine amount of insurance in force on single risk or group of closely related risks.
6. Authorize reinsurance of policy when risk is high.
7. Examine documents to determine degree of risk from factors such as applicant health, financial standing and value, and condition of property.

# External AI agent skills — insurance-underwriter
Proven, publicly available AI agent skills mapped to this occupation.
Nothing is copied from the sources: every entry is a name, a one-line
summary and a link to the upstream skill package. Each section names
its source repository, commit, license and retrieval date.
**Tiers:** `core` = the skill directly exercises a top market hard
skill, tool or method (from gated job-ad evidence) or an essential
ESCO competence of this occupation; `adjacent` =
plausibly useful, secondary. Entries are capped at 12 per source
and 80 in total per occupation (core first,
strongest matches survive); everything beyond the caps is excluded
and logged in the pipeline audit trail, not in this package.
_Matched deterministically (ISCO group + title/competence keywords,
tiered against market evidence + ESCO essentials) by
