interior-architect Occupational skill for the role 'interior architect' (also: building designer, architect, design architect, construction manager, junior interior designer, interior designer). Use when the user asks for typical interior architect work such as: Estimate material requirements and costs, and present design to client for approval.; Confer with client to determine factors affecting planning of interior environments, such as budget, architectural preferences, purpose, and function.; Advise client on interior design factors, such as space planning, layout and use of furnishings or equipment, and color coordination.

Interior Architect

Interior architects create plans of the interior of a home, building or other structure. They determine the specifications and distribution of the space. Interior architects combine an understanding of space with a sense for aesthetics in order to create a harmonious interior design. They draw architectural drawings using computer-aided equipment and software, or using conventional methods like paper and pen.

Core workflow

  1. Estimate material requirements and costs, and present design to client for approval.
  2. Confer with client to determine factors affecting planning of interior environments, such as budget, architectural preferences, purpose, and function.
  3. Advise client on interior design factors, such as space planning, layout and use of furnishings or equipment, and color coordination.
  4. Select or design, and purchase furnishings, art work, and accessories.
  5. Formulate environmental plan to be practical, esthetic, and conducive to intended purposes, such as raising productivity or selling merchandise.
  6. Subcontract fabrication, installation, and arrangement of carpeting, fixtures, accessories, draperies, paint and wall coverings, art work, furniture, and related items.
  7. Render design ideas in form of paste-ups or drawings.
  8. Coordinate with other professionals, such as contractors, architects, engineers, and plumbers, to ensure job success.
