pharmacy-technician Occupational skill for the role 'pharmacy technician' (also: technologist in pharmaceuticals, technologist in pharmacy, pharmacy technologist, pharmaceutical technician, pharmaceutical technologist, pharmacy technical assistant). Use when the user asks for typical pharmacy technician work such as: Prepack bulk medicines, fill bottles with prescribed medications, and type and affix labels.; Receive and store incoming supplies, verify quantities against invoices, check for outdated medications in current inventory, and inform supervisors of stock needs and shortages.; Receive written prescription or refill requests and verify that information is complete and accurate.

Pharmacy Technician

Pharmacy technicians, under the supervision of a pharmacist, check incoming goods, control stock, handle and store pharmaceuticals properly. Where permitted by national rules, they dispense medication and provide advice on their appropriate use.

Core workflow

  1. Prepack bulk medicines, fill bottles with prescribed medications, and type and affix labels.
  2. Receive and store incoming supplies, verify quantities against invoices, check for outdated medications in current inventory, and inform supervisors of stock needs and shortages.
  3. Receive written prescription or refill requests and verify that information is complete and accurate.
  4. Maintain proper storage and security conditions for drugs.
  5. Answer telephones, responding to questions or requests.
  6. Assist customers by answering simple questions, locating items, or referring them to the pharmacist for medication information.
  7. Price and file prescriptions that have been filled.
  8. Clean and help maintain equipment or work areas and sterilize glassware, according to prescribed methods.
