# Stage Technician
Stage technicians control different aspects of a performance based on the artistic or creative concept, in interaction with the performers. They prepare and perform the setup, program the equipment and operate various systems. Stage technicians take care of lighting, sound, video, sets and/or fly systems. Their work is based on plans, instructions and calculations. They can work in small venues, theatres and other small artistic productions.
## Core workflow
1. Assess safety of wiring or equipment set-up to determine the risk of fire or electrical shock.
2. Consult with lighting director or production staff to determine lighting requirements.
3. Disassemble and store equipment after performances.
4. Install color effects or image patterns, such as color filters, onto lighting fixtures.
5. Install electrical cables or wire fixtures.
6. Load, unload, or position lighting equipment.
7. Match light fixture settings, such as brightness and color, to lighting design plans.
8. Notify supervisors when major lighting equipment repairs are needed.
## How to use this skill

- Check [references/skills.md](references/skills.md) for essential vs. optional competences.
- Check [references/tools.md](references/tools.md) for the software commonly used in this role.
- See [references/ai-skills.md](references/ai-skills.md) — matched external AI agent skills (per-source attribution).
## Key competences (essential)

- adapt to artists' creative demands
- adjust projector
- assemble scenic elements on stage

- assemble truss constructions
- assess power needs
- de-rig electronic equipment
- dismantle the rehearsal set
- distribute control signals
- draw stage layouts
- draw up lighting plan
- ensure visual quality of the set
- find a replacement for stage manager
- focus lighting equipment
- follow safety procedures when working at heights

# External AI agent skills — stage-technician
Proven, publicly available AI agent skills mapped to this occupation.
Nothing is copied from the sources: every entry is a name, a one-line
summary and a link to the upstream skill package. Each section names
its source repository, commit, license and retrieval date.
**Tiers:** `core` = the skill directly exercises a top market hard
skill, tool or method (from gated job-ad evidence) or an essential
ESCO competence of this occupation; `adjacent` =
plausibly useful, secondary. Entries are capped at 12 per source
and 80 in total per occupation (core first,
strongest matches survive); everything beyond the caps is excluded
and logged in the pipeline audit trail, not in this package.
_Matched deterministically (ISCO group + title/competence keywords,
tiered against market evidence + ESCO essentials) by
`pipeline/p5_enrich_ai_skills.py` on 2026-07-14._
